VOC Hosts 2007 Christian Prophetic
Writer's Retreat
For poets, spoken word artists & other creative writers
Voices of Christ Literary Ministries International (VOC),
formerly the Voices of Christ Prophetic Poetry Team, is elated to
announce the "2007 Christian Prophetic Writer's Retreat: The
Season of the Scribe" scheduled for August 16-19, 2007 at
the Calvin Center in Hampton, Georgia. This retreat nurtures and
develops the "heart of God" in poets, spoken word artists,
playwrights, songwriters, novelists, children's authors and other
creative writers.
"This is the perhaps one of the only retreats in this region that
focuses exclusively on cultivating the spirit of the writer,"
said VOC President Prophetess Theresa Harvard Johnson. "While
emphasis on skill is important, it is of little use when the heart
and mind of the writer is not renewed and connected to the heart of
God. I am thankful for those that focus on developing skill, but my
greater concern is on developing the heart of the 'minister' inside
the writer. Only then can the skill truly be perfected, and our
Father in Heaven get the glory.
"We must put the 'Seek ye first the Kingdom of God' scripture so
many like to quote back into practice. When the instructions that we
have been given by God become a reality in our lives, then the
vision he has given us as creative writers in the Kingdom will come
alive and have the kind of impact that turns hearts back toward
him."
The four-day retreat will feature two
live open mic sessions, one at the beginning of the retreat and a
live recorded session for broadcasting at the event close; a
literary roundtable concerning the role worship arts in the body; an
in-depth, fun-filled critique session; multiple power-packed
sessions on prophetic writing; and numerous training and activation
sessions. One of the best parts about this retreat, said Prophetess
Johnson, is the fact that the participants actively participate in
each session and can interact freely with presenters.
"Many retreats do not give you this
opportunity because of their size,” she said. “We cap off attendance
after a certain point because of our desire to maximize learning and
interaction. We really want to get to know you - no matter where you
are in your development as a writer. We are concerned with embracing
an environment that promotes intimacy with God and bible study."
