1 Corinthians 3:10-13

10 According to the grace (the special endowment for my task) of God bestowed on me, like a skillful architect and master builder I laid [the] foundation, and now another [man] is building upon it. But let each [man] be careful how he builds upon it,    11 For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is [already] laid, which is Jesus Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One)

Many of the ministries we see today - not just churches - are laying synthetic materials on the foundation that Jesus Christ built in their hearts. The average mature, born again believer starts out loving God with everything in them, but somewhere along the way, they manage to lose focus of God, and place lusting eyes upon men. Some believers come back to themselves, other get lost and caught up in the mechanics and glitz of a man-made religion, and convince themselves that what they've done, and the path taken to get there was all God.

That good foundation becomes corrupted with "man's hands" and "world concepts."

12But if anyone builds upon the Foundation, whether it be with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw,

13The work of each [one] will become [plainly, openly] known (shown for what it is); for the day [of Christ] will disclose and declare it, because it will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test and critically appraise the character and worth of the work each person has done.

You see, the Lord won't stop anyone from using synthetic materials to construct their ministry. But in the end, those materials will lose their strength and the walls around the foundation will come down. So very much of the world has come into our lives, our hearts, our minds and our ministries. Daily, we are bombarded with information. We see strategies from well known ministers and so called successful people that tell us this is the way to do this and this is the way to do that. This is how you live a life of purpose in Christ! This is how you grow your church, your ministry!

While it worked for them, this may not be what the Lord has planned for you. Yet, instead of consulting God through prayer, fasting and/or counsel – many follow the concepts of others, and sadly ... many of these concepts are business strategies and tactics born in and of the world. They were not BIRTH out of prayer. But because it sounds good, they follow that leaders 21 day program.

Each one of us will all have to face the fire of God alone, and I tell you what --- wood, hay and straw cannot survive a fire of any kind. What have you built your ministry upon? Is your mission to be a catalyst from reconciliation or are you building your on thing ... and using Jesus Christ as the "selling point." Is Christ a marketing strategy now?

14 If the work which any person has built on this Foundation [any product of his efforts whatever] survives [this test], he will get his reward. 15 But if any person's work is burned up [under the test], he will suffer the loss [of it all, losing his reward], though he himself will be saved, but only as [one who has passed] through fire.

We should strive daily to present work to God that is acceptable and pleasing in HIS sight. This means that what ever we do must not only be a "good thing" but our motives for doing it must be PURE. There can be no hidden agenda behind "words or good deeds." Your response should be: Lord, I'm doing this to please you because I love you and want to serve you. But get this, if a person's works are burned up ... they will not receive a reward in heaven – they may scrape through the fire smelling like smoke – but they will live out eternity having received their reward on earth from the lips of men.

16 Do you not discern and understand that you [the whole church at Corinth] are God's temple (His sanctuary), and that God's Spirit has His permanent dwelling in you [to be at home in you, [c]collectively as a church and also individually]?

If anyone [d]does hurt to God's temple or corrupts it [[e]with false doctrines] or destroys it, God will [f]do hurt to him and bring him to the corruption of death and destroy him. For the temple of God is holy (sacred to Him) and that [temple] you [[g]the believing church and its individual believers] are.

It is time for us to DISCERN the heart and mind of God. Too many people are following God SELFISHLY. God I need this. Lord I need that. But has anyone stopped and asked the Lord this question: "God, what can I do for you? What do you need from me today Father? Perhaps ... just for once, this might be the route to getting "direction and instruction" for your life.

You see... the Lord deals with each one of us INDIVIDUALLY when it comes to our unique purpose and destiny. While we may be connected as one unit – each person in that unit has a SPECIFIC function unique to them. We spend more time ASKING GOD TO HELP US, when we should be asking him ... how can we help you? Did he not say that we should take no thought for tomorrow? Did he not say that HE is our source?

If God is our source, why are we looking at someone's strategy for success. When, when, when ... are we are going to see things from God's perspective?

There is no "strategy for your success." The only strategy we need to know is this one, Mark 12:29-31:

"Hear, O Israel, the LORD our God, the LORD is one. 30 And you shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.' This is the first commandment. And the second, like it, is this: `You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no other commandment greater than these."

What ever happened to THIS MESSAGE being preached, and walked out. This summarizes Christ's life, the foundation for ministry and the entire purpose for our existence. The body has lost the CROSS! Where is JESUS in the hearts of "his" people? Everyone is to busy being HARD CARE and TOUGH to see the CHRIST in others, or to see the move of God in the lives of others...

That's why it's so hard for me to just read a poem or a short story and immediately say, "THAT'S NOT GOD!" I can't just cut someone off that I was in relationship with because I'm angry or frustrated. I used to do this ... but because I love God ... I have to allow HIM to separate and sever. My "feelings" can't do it. I must be able to read the novel a man or woman presents to me ... and see the Lord at work. Did not he say, in all things I will be glorified!

The body has grown "COMMERCIAL" limbs and the internal organs are "CONCEPTS & IDEAS" verses people living the word of God. If you say you love the Lord ... then ACT like it. I don't mean TALK ABOUT IT. Anyone can quote scriptures and appear holy and make wild judgments when they read a post they don't like. BUT NOT EVERYONE CAN look past what is written and DISCERN the presence of God.

This is where we need to be. But to get here, we have to see things from God's perspective. A first step in doing that is asking him: Father, what can I do for you today? And then, don't talk about what you can do. Don't LIE by making vows and promises out of emotion ....just do it!
